WPL Season 3 Set to Sparkle with February 6 Start: BCCI Finalizes Key Details

The excitement around the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is building as the BCCI has confirmed a dedicated window for the third season of the tournament, scheduled to run from February 6 to March 9, 2025. While the exact dates are still being finalized, franchises were briefed at the recent WPL auction in Bengaluru, with a Thursday, February 6 start looking increasingly likely.

The third season promises to be just as thrilling as its predecessors, with 22 action-packed matches on the agenda. Although there were plans to add a new team to the mix this season, the BCCI has decided to keep the number of teams at five, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru returning as the defending champions.

The location for the tournament is still under wraps, but Lucknow and Ahmedabad are currently the top contenders to host the games. Mumbai, home to the Mumbai Indians WPL team, and Bengaluru, home to the Royal Challengers, are not being considered for the season, while Delhi has been ruled out due to the chilly weather during that period. Franchises have reportedly shown interest in Ahmedabad, though availability of the Narendra Modi Stadium for the entire month is still to be confirmed.

With the IPL 2025 set to begin on March 14, the WPL could provide the perfect build-up, with the final potentially landing between March 7 and 9, leaving a brief gap before the much-anticipated IPL launch.

Stay tuned as the BCCI gears up for another memorable season of women’s cricket, filled with intense action, fierce competition, and plenty of star power!
