Vijay Hazare Trophy: Gujarat, Mumbai, Vidarbha Cruise to Dominant Wins
Group A, Jaipur: Assam vs Gujarat
Gujarat continued their perfect run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with a comprehensive victory over Assam. Skipper Chintan Gaja led from the front, claiming stunning figures of 5 for 27, while Priyajitsing Jadeja supported with 4 for 23, as Assam was bundled out for a mere 75 in just under 20 overs. Only two Assam batters reached double figures, as Gujarat's bowlers dominated the field.
In reply, Gujarat's openers, Urvil Patil (37) and Aarya Desai (28), put together a 67-run partnership to steer their team towards an easy win. Assam managed to claim a couple of consolation wickets, but the result was never in doubt as Gujarat cruised to their third straight win.
Group C, Ahmedabad: Arunachal Pradesh vs Mumbai
Mumbai showed their clinical prowess with a dominant nine-wicket win over Arunachal Pradesh. Opting to bowl first, Mumbai's bowlers were ruthless, rolling Arunachal Pradesh out for just 73 in 33 overs. Skipper Shardul Thakur and Harsh Tanna each took two wickets as Arunachal slumped to 30 for 6 inside 19 overs, with three of their top four batters dismissed for ducks. Techi Doria fought valiantly with a 48-ball 13, but no one else could provide much resistance.
In reply, Mumbai’s Angkrish Raghuvanshi stole the show with a sensational 18-ball half-century, hammering nine fours and a six, leading Mumbai to victory in just 8.3 overs and with 44.3 overs to spare. Raghuvanshi’s explosive knock earned him the Player of the Match award.
Group D, Vizianagaram: Chhattisgarh vs Vidarbha
Vidarbha produced an all-round performance to secure an easy eight-wicket victory over Chhattisgarh. Yash Thakur was the star with the ball, taking 4 for 27 as Vidarbha bowled Chhattisgarh out for just 80. Thakur’s match-winning spell destroyed the top order, with the highest score from a Chhattisgarh batter being just 15.
Vidarbha lost their openers cheaply, but a solid 64-run partnership between skipper Karun Nair (44*) and Yash Rathod steered them home in just 18 overs. It was a commanding win for Vidarbha, who continued their strong tournament campaign.
