Amir Jangoo Earns Maiden Test Call-Up for West Indies' Pakistan Series
Amir Jangoo, who recently marked his ODI debut with a stunning century against Bangladesh, has been handed his maiden Test call-up for the West Indies’ upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, starting January 16, 2025. Jangoo’s selection comes after a series of consistent performances in regional cricket, showcasing his prowess across formats and his strong ability to handle spin bowling, which will be crucial on Pakistan’s spin-friendly pitches.
In addition to Jangoo, spinner Gudakesh Motie returns to the squad, bolstering the West Indies' spin attack as they look to strengthen their position in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. However, pacer Shamar Joseph will miss out due to continued rehabilitation from injury, and Alzarri Joseph remains unavailable for selection.
West Indies head coach Andre Coley stated that the focus for the upcoming series will be on building upon their successes from 2024, translating those learnings into meaningful results in Pakistan. The team will also play a two-day warm-up match in Rawalpindi on January 11-12 to prepare for the series in Multan.
