Zimbabwe Names Exciting Rookie-Laden Test Squad for Historic Afghanistan Series

Zimbabwe’s national selectors have unveiled a thrilling Test squad filled with fresh talent for the upcoming two-match series against Afghanistan, set to be played on home soil. The squad features seven uncapped players, marking a new era for Zimbabwean cricket. Among the standout names is left-handed opener Ben Curran, the son of former cricketer Kevin Curran and brother to England internationals Tom and Sam Curran.

Curran will be joined by a host of debutants including Johnathan Campbell, son of former Zimbabwe captain Alastair Campbell, as well as Trevor Gwandu, Takudzwa Chataira, Newman Nyamhuri, Nyasha Mayavo, and Tadiwanashe Marumani, all of whom are poised to make their first appearances in Test cricket.

This historic series will mark Zimbabwe’s first-ever Boxing Day Test at home since 1996, and for the first time ever, Zimbabwe will also host a New Year Test.

While the squad introduces new faces, the experienced core remains strong. Craig Ervine will continue as captain, leading a side that includes established stars such as Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, Blessing Muzarabani, and Richard Ngarava.
