Salahuddin Focused on Team Development and Player Hunger Ahead of BPL
Mohammad Salahuddin, Bangladesh's senior assistant coach, may not be at the heart of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) preparations this time, but his influence continues to resonate. With a remarkable record of four championships and five finals, Salahuddin remains the most successful coach in BPL history. However, this year, he’s quietly focused on his role with the Bangladesh national team, sidelined from the tournament due to his commitments.
“I’m not missing BPL,” Salahuddin told Cricbuzz. “I try to be content with whatever I do. What matters most is the performance of our boys in the BPL, as a strong competition benefits the national team. But I’m not dwelling on what I’m not doing—I’m focusing on the job at hand.”
Salahuddin emphasized his approach to work, staying focused on his tasks without looking at what others are doing. He shared his philosophy: “If someone is doing well, let them do it. I don’t feel unhappy seeing others succeed.” His focus remains firmly on the development of players for the national team, particularly watching how they perform in various situations during the BPL.
While he’s unsure if he’ll attend all the matches in person, Salahuddin plans to keep a close eye on the tournament. “Watching the games on TV allows me to see replays and assess players more effectively. I’ll be watching closely, ensuring I’m aware of our resources for the national team.”
Reflecting on his recent stint with the Bangladesh team during the West Indies tour, Salahuddin expressed satisfaction with the results. He also noted that T20I captain Litton Das valued his presence in the dressing room, particularly his comfort in communicating with the players, having known them from an early stage.
Salahuddin isn’t worried about external expectations. Instead, his focus remains on developing the team and instilling a hunger for success. “If I see someone lacking hunger, I must help them develop it,” he explained, highlighting his role as a mentor to players like Shakib al Hasan and Mominul Haque.
On the leadership front, Salahuddin praised head coach Phil Simmons for his positive approach. “Phil has a clear plan to improve the team, and he communicates well with the players. He doesn’t impose anything, which is one of the best things about his leadership.”
For Salahuddin, the key is always team development, creating a collective hunger for success and a unified approach to moving forward.
