Bangladesh Complete Historic 3-0 Sweep Over West Indies with 80-Run Victory
Bangladesh completed a historic 3-0 sweep of the West Indies with a dominant 80-run victory on a record-breaking day in Kingstown. Powered by Jaker Ali's brilliant 72* off 41 balls and a stellar bowling performance, Bangladesh posted their highest-ever T20I total in the West Indies, finishing with 189/7. The bowlers then combined to dismiss the hosts for just 109 in 16.4 overs, securing the visitors' biggest win in terms of runs.
With the series already sealed at 2-0, Bangladesh chose to bat first and were off to a flying start. Parvez Hossain Emon (39 off 21) led the charge in a rapid 44-run opening partnership, giving the team a solid platform. Despite losing both openers in quick succession during the PowerPlay, Bangladesh were well placed at 54/2. Tanzid Hasan (14) could not capitalise, but Jaker Ali, coming in at 65/3, took control.
Jaker formed a crucial 37-run stand with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, before Roston Chase provided a breakthrough, triggering a mini-collapse. In a confusing moment, Jaker briefly walked back to the pavilion after a run-out but was recalled after a review. With Bangladesh at 114/6 in the 15th over, Jaker shifted gears. He formed a 50-run partnership with Tanzin Hasan Sakib, blasting 55 runs off 25 balls to help Bangladesh finish strong. Jaker, who was on 17 off 16 at the time of the recall, went on to punish Alzarri Joseph, hitting four sixes and two boundaries, including two big overs for 12 and 25 runs.
Set a daunting target of 190, West Indies were quickly under pressure. Taskin Ahmed made an immediate impact, dismissing Brandon King LBW in the opening over. Despite some resistance from Nicholas Pooran, the hosts struggled, managing only 45 runs in the Powerplay and losing three wickets. Mahedi Hasan, continuing his excellent series, completed a hat-trick of dismissing Pooran.
Romario Shepherd put up a brief fight with 33, but none of the other West Indies batters showed the application needed in the chase. The asking rate continued to climb, and Bangladesh’s bowlers maintained their dominance. Rishad Hossain was the standout with figures of 3/21 from four overs, while all five Bangladesh bowlers claimed at least one wicket.
